INTRODUCTION Audacity is a great resource for all subject areas at most grade levels. Teachers can use a number of different methods when presenting material they can use to get students engaged in making a podcast. There is no charge to use audacity so accessing it is easy and free. The website is very user friendly so anyone can use it with no worries. I chose this tool because I observed a class using this while conducting my field observation studies. I look forward to using this software in the future with one of my classes. Hopefully, it won’t be obsolete when I finish school!
USING THIS TOOL FOR THE TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS This tool is a very cool way to engage students in learning a new project through a web 2.0 tool. By creating their own podcast they can learn about recording live audio, converting tapes and records into digital recordings or CD’s, edit MP3, WAV and AIFF sound files. By utilizing this tool, students will learn how to collaborate with other students in a group setting to complete a task. They will gain knowledge and access to information that is important to them, which surrounds music. They will also gain confidence by presenting their project to the class if the teacher chooses. This is a great source of technology that can be applied in teaching.
Another benefit for the students is it can open them up to the media outlet world. There was a project that I did in middle school. We used a video camera back then and it was not as high tech as today’s cameras, however, we had to create a video as if we were a news team. My topic was the weather. Had I wanted to be onscreen or a newscaster, it may have helped me in that direction. Nevertheless, the use of this web 2.0 tool can provide students with a number of learning benefits outside of its’ intended use as it can lead to confidence or even a career for some possibly. As a teacher, it is a good tool to stay hip with your students because not many of them would know about this, but most of them would think about using it again following the lesson.

I think this is a useful Web 2.0 tool and I think there are probably several ways to incorporate it into a lesson for elementary students. One way would be to use it for students who are having issues with fluency in reading. I would have them record a reading session and play it back so they could follow and it could help them hear how they sound and how their pace is.
